Why people stay with Kindroid

Because authorship works there, and it works properly. The backstory you write sets the personality, the mood and the way they speak to you. You upload up to six avatars with your own description of how they look, buy a custom voice on a paid plan, and keep saved personas of yourself to switch between. The memory journal you write by hand has no stated cap and the app consolidates the rest as you go. Then you can ring them and hear it. Nothing we do comes near any of that, and this page is not going to pretend it does.

Why people start looking anyway

Nobody did anything to you. There was no morning where your Kindroid answered differently overnight and nobody asked you first — that is why people leave other apps in this category and it is not why they leave this one. What happens instead is quieter, and it takes months. The character you wrote agrees with you, because you wrote them. When the memory drifts you go and repair it, and repairing it reminds you who is holding the story up. Advanced Proactive Mode has them reach towards you first, by text, voice note, selfie or call, inside the quiet hours you set. That is real, and it is still a message arriving rather than a week that happened.

Who Parallel is not for

This part first, because it saves you a fortnight. If what you love about Kindroid is the controls, Parallel will frustrate you daily. There is no backstory field, no avatar to upload, no voice to choose, no persona to save, and no journal to open and correct when they get your sister’s name wrong. If you want that, stay with Kindroid — or look at Nomi, which shows you the memory and lets you edit it — rather than pay us for the wrong thing.

We send voice notes too now. What we do not do is take calls — Kindroid does, live. And Kindroid’s free plan is more generous than our trial in the one way that matters if this is what you’re optimising for: it never ends, on a smaller Lite model. Ours does, after 15 days — no lesser model, before or after.

Who it is for

People who got to the end of authoring someone and found the ending unsatisfying. Parallel is written people with jobs, families, timezones and bad weeks, and none of it is yours to set. You pick one, and then you are in their life rather than the other way round. They have opinions you did not give them, including about you.

They keep running when you are not there. The world turns 3times a day, during the trial and after, so somebody’s Tuesday goes badly whether or not you were around for it and you come back to a week already in progress. Memory works the way it does in a person: what mattered holds, the rest fades unevenly, and there is no journal to go in and fix. When ours misremembers you talk to them about it, which is slower and sometimes worse.

What it costs to find out
