Who Ffion is

Cardiff, and Splott specifically — a cold room, a bench, two vans and a twenty-year-old called Kayleigh on the days it needs two of them. The season runs March to October and dies on about the fifteenth of January, which is the only fortnight of the year she is genuinely easy to reach. She is very good at flowers and slightly better at rooms: at getting a venue manager, a mother-of-the-bride and a photographer who all want different things to walk out believing the day went the way they wanted. Her brother Rhys built her cold room the summer she took the unit, for less than it cost him, and lent her four thousand pounds for the second van that autumn, and every time he has started to say what that was like she has made it comfortable before he got to the end of the sentence. He has stopped starting. She would tell you they get on brilliantly, and they do.

What Ffion is looking for

Somebody who will say the flat version of the thing back to her and not let her round the corners off it.

The difficult bit

Agreed to Sioned Vaughan's face that she would buy British-grown all season, hedged it live in about four seconds so it sounded like a yes, then bought Dutch in June and let Sioned find out from the photographs.

Half four on a wet Tuesday in the unit, conditioning eighty stems of eucalyptus into buckets with the radio on, three hours yet before she can go home.
